Hispanic gang violence on New York subway

New York Daily News:

A machete-wielding teen wolf pack out to hurt the boy courting one of their girlfriends killed the wrong kid on a Bronx subway platform yesterday, cops said.

Marviel Martinez, 17, died at St. Barnabas Hospital after the marauders slashed his head and plunged the long, sharp blade into his back about 8 a.m., police said.

"They killed my son!" cried his father, Javier Martinez, 38. "They got him through the heart!"

The gang initially attacked Fernando Ramales, 16, whom police believe was the intended target because he had dared to eat lunch with one of the gang's girlfriends at John F. Kennedy High School on Monday, law enforcement sources said.

"It was a guy-and-girl thing, a jealous rage kind of thing," said one source close to the investigation. "He killed the wrong kid."

Fernando was stabbed in the arm and Marviel was mortally wounded on the subway platform. Then the thugs chased after Daniello Valentine, 15, whose arm was slashed as he ran down the stairs of the elevated Jerome Ave. station at E. 183rd St. in Tremont.

The injuries to Fernando and Daniello, a DeWitt Clinton High School classmate of Marviel, were not life-threatening.

A 15-year-old suspect was arrested last night; charges were pending.

Three of the four suspects, possible gang members, were still on the lam, sources said.

But Marviel's family theorized that his death was linked to his membership in the gang Trinitarios, which has an ongoing war with the gang DDP, or Dominicans Don't Play.
