Three Africans held by police for beating a Thai woman in Malaysia

Patrons of a popular nightspot along Jalan P. Ramlee went to the aid of a Thai woman who was being beaten up by three Africans at an open-air car park early Saturday morning.

The patrons then held the Africans – two from South Africa and the other from Nigeria – until the police arrived.

The police were in for a surprise when they checked the Africans’ rented Proton Wira at the car park and found several bundles of notes amounting to RM40,000.

Police are trying to ascertain if the trio belong to a gang involved in the African Black Money scam.

The three suspects, aged between 21 and 33, who have valid travel documents, claimed they are students.

They have been remanded for a week to facilitate investigations.

The Thai woman, who is a tourist, received outpatient treatment for bruises on her arms and face.

City anti-vice, gaming and secret societies chief Superintendent Zaki Masroh said police have initially classified the case as attempted rape and causing injuries.

Zaki, however, did not rule out more charges against the Africans after police complete their investigations.

The drama unfolded at 2.30am when patrons of the nightspot witnessed the three Africans trying to force the woman into a car. She was assaulted in the struggle.

A group of patrons then ran outside and stopped the Africans from beating up the woman. Several of them then held the Africans while police were called in.

Initial investigations revealed that the woman was drinking at the bar when one of the Africans walked up to her and grabbed her glass. She chased him outside the nightspot and was confronted by two others.

After the Africans were handed over to the police, a team led by Assistant Superintendent Zul- karnain Zakaria raided a terrace house in Taman Len Seng in Cheras which was rented by the Africans. It is not known if police seized anything from the house.

Let's hope these three thugs spend some hard time in a Malaysian prison.
