Immigration lawyers object to new tests in Britain

Times Online:

Forcing publicly-funded immigration lawyers to go through an accreditation scheme discriminates against black and Asian people, it was claimed today.

Four solicitors have applied for a High Court judicial review of the scheme, which was launched in April and comes fully into force in August.

The applicants say the scheme is discriminatory and breaks race relations laws as seven out of 10 immigration specialists are from ethnic minorities.

The scheme was devised and launched by the Legal Services Commission (LSC) and the solicitors’ professional body, the Law Society, to improve standards in immigration law.
