North Africans among Islamic fighters coming to Iraq

Associated Press:

Islamic extremists as far away as north Africa are reaching out to like-minded Iraqis, resulting in an increasing trickle of Algerians, Moroccans and Tunisians carrying out suicide bombings and other attacks against US forces and their allies in Iraq, a senior US military officer said yesterday.

Forensic investigations have shown that up to 20 per cent of suicide car bombers in Iraq are from Algeria alone, and roughly five per cent from Morocco and Tunisia, a US officer with responsibilities in Europe and Africa said on condition of anonymity to defer for reasons of protocol to US commanders in Iraq.
