Left-wing simple-mindedness rears its brainless head

Islam apologist, Karen Armstrong, comes up with this "insight":

We rarely, if ever, called the IRA bombings "Catholic" terrorism because we knew enough to realise that this was not essentially a religious campaign. Indeed, like the Irish republican movement, many fundamentalist movements worldwide are simply new forms of nationalism in a highly unorthodox religious guise. This is obviously the case with Zionist fundamentalism in Israel and the fervently patriotic Christian right in the US.

Of course, an important distinction between the IRA and al-Qaida is that the IRA wants to drive the British out of the island of Ireland while al-Qaida wants to drive the British out of the island of Britain. Unfortunately, Armstrong is too busy defending Islam from all criticism to notice that important distinction.

I heard Armstrong on the BBC this morning -- she sounded like someone best ignored (mostly, anyway).

As to why she was interviewed, see your other item about how the BBC does not want to use the word terrorist to describe those who carried out the bombings.

After her appearance, the BBC announcers read out several messages from (going by the names, obviously muslim) listeners praising her words and bemoaning the fact thaat more voices like hers were not to be heard (!). Earlier the BBC aired the now standard report about fears of a "backlash" against muslims in the UK, after which I sent in a message saying that what was needed was a "backlash" against British politicians who had allowed a huge, largely alien and very un-English population of muslims to develop in the UK in the first place. Not surprisingly they did not read my message out on the air.

I wonder what exactly would Muslims have to do to get the BBC and British politicians to turn against them? It seems that no matter what insane acts are carried out by Muslims that the media and the politicians will go out of their way to portray them as victims.
