Norwegian-Somalian killer to sue hospital

Aftenposten:

The Norwegian-Somalian man sentenced for the murder of man after a stabbing spree on an Oslo tram a year ago is now suing Ullevål University Hospital for failing to treat him.

The 41-year-old man has been sentenced to compulsory psychiatric treatment and is now suing Ullevål, which was severely criticized for releasing him before the crime was committed.

"Ullevål Hospital was grossly negligent when they released my client. We wish to file suit against the hospital, if the court costs will be covered," the man's lawyer Anne Hazeland told newspaper VG.

On July 30 last year the 41-year-old was released from the psychiatric emergency ward at Ullevål University Hospital after assessing him as no longer posing a danger to himself or others. Five days later he used a combat knife to kill one and seriously injure four on an Oslo tram.

Two weeks ago the Norwegian Board of Health found that the hospital was grossly negligent, and issued a warning to the director of medicine there.
