Hurricane Evacuee Charged with Rape in Garland County

KARK:

Glenn Dorsett

A hurricane evacuee is behind bars in Garland County, charged with raping a minor on Thursday at Assembly of God Church campground in Mountain Valley.

The Garland County Sheriff’s Department says 18 year old Glenn Dorsett of Slidell, Louisiana was arrested for having sex with a minor at the campground. Deputies say the victim is a 13 year old mentally challenged female who was able to tell investigators what happened. Deputies say both of the evacuees knew each other and had traveled together on a bus from New Orleans to Arkansas.

This incident comes just days after cities like Conway choose to conduct background checks on evacuees. In Garland County, authorities say they’ve thought about doing the same, but decided against it.

"Every time you have a massive evacuation you`re going to have some bad people that come with the good,” said Lt. Neighbors with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department.

"Everyone is working together and trying to make a positive out of a bad situation,” said Ron Kelley with Assembly of God Church.

Deputies say Dorsett is just 18 years old, but already has a long criminal history, including illegal use of weapons, criminal trespass, and possession of drugs. His bond is set at $100,000.
