A young Turkish immigrant in Germany has admitted to murdering his sister in an honor killing

Sky News:

Ayhan Surucu said he shot dead his 23-year-old sister Hatun on a Berlin street because he disapproved of her lifestyle and her morals.

The 19-year-old - who stands accused alongside his two brothers - said he had acted alone.

"I killed my sister. Nobody else in the family helped me," he told a court in Berlin.

His brothers, aged 24 and 26, have both pleaded not guilty.

Hatun was shot three times in the head while waiting at a bus stop in the capital on February 7.

According to the prosecution, the three accused were angry because she had left her husband to live by herself in Berlin.

The court heard Hatun had been forced to marry her cousin in Turkey when she was 15.

But she left the man and her family when she turned 17.

This is a particularly heinous case, not just because of the murder itself -- which was terrible enough, one would think -- but also due to the judicial proceedings now unfolding (which in the end may not have a lot to do with 'justice'). The reason the youngest has confessed is because under German law he will get at most a sentence of only 10 years for the crime -- whereas his older brothers could get longer sentences(although not the death penalty). So the confession is just a legal ploy -- it is commonly known all 3 brothers were involved in planning to kill their sister (imagine it! -- and Europe is importing trash like this) -- who actually pulled the trigger is not known, and apparently the police cannot prove it was one or another of the brothers.
