Police have arrested a Mexican national accused of raping his housemate’s 3-year-old daughter

Jail records show that Julian Rodriguez, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Brownsville Police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique said Rodriguez, his wife and their two sons shared a house on the 6100 block of Boca Chica Boulevard with a single mother with three children and one granddaughter.

Manrrique said the mother’s 18-year-old daughter was giving her own baby a bath when her 3-year-old sister came in complaining of pain. The toddler told family members and investigators that Rodriguez had sexually assaulted her.

The suspect left the house in a mini-van but was stopped by a patrol officer near the corner of Minnesota Avenue and San Miguel Drive.

Rodriguez remains in custody after Brownsville Municipal Judge Phil Bellamy denied the Durango, Mexico, native bond based on a perceived flight risk.

Under state law, Rodriguez could face five to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted.
