Three illegal immigrants charged in Immokalee gang rape

Denes Husty Iii:

Prosecutors have filed formal sexual battery and kidnapping charges against three men accused of taking part in the gang rape of a 20-year-old woman in Immokalee a month ago.

The charges were filed against the three after DNA evidence linked them to the rape, prosecutors said.

Alvarado Perez Luis, 21; Mario Lopez Luis, 19; and Rene Perez Garcia, 22, are all charged with sexual battery with great force or with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. They each face life in prison if convicted and are being held in the Collier County Jail without bond.

Eleven other men, also accused of taking part in the gang rape, are still being held n the jail.

Prosecutors may still file formal charges against some or all of the defendants as the case progresses, Assistant State Attorney Mike Provost said.

Federal immigration officials have also placed a hold on all the defendants because they are accused of being in the United States without proper documentation.
