Man charged in Sweden with honor killing

The Local:

A 59 year old man has appeared at Norrköping district court accused of the 'honour killing' of a 13 year old girl in Iraq in 2001.

The man has been the subject of an international arrest warrant since September 2004 and was arrested at Arlanda airport just before Christmas, reported local paper Folkbladet.

The girl was murdered by her relatives in the Kurdish village of Batel in northern Iraq, apparently after having been seen in a car with a neighbour's son. The killing is said to have taken place at a reconciliation dinner.

The 59 year old's younger brother is also suspected of participating in the murder and he was remanded in custody in September 2004 on probable suspicion of the killing. He was released in February last year but is still under suspicion.
