100 million Africans will be living below the dollar-a-day poverty line by 2015

Enegbe Ndoma:

The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Rt. Hon. Jack Straw MP, says around 100 million Africans will be living below the dollar-a-day poverty line by the year 2015.

Delivering a lecture at the General Murtala Mohammed’s 10th memorial lecture on Tuesday in Abuja, Straw added that “it is not just the numbers, which are growing, as Africa is the only continent where the proportion of people in poverty is growing, unlike India, China and other parts of Asia that proportion is going down.

We already know that Africa is on course to miss all the millennium development goals. But on present trends it won’t hit some of them for more than 150 years from now. That is simply not acceptable,” Straw said.

The UK Secretary of State was of the opinion that as the world economy becomes ever more competitive, an African which fails to rise to that challenge risks becoming increasingly marginalised.

“An uncompetitive Africa will fail to attract investment, fail to diversify away from exports of primary products, fail to compete in terms of productivity and so fail to reduce poverty”, Straw said.

In the lecture with the theme: Africa: a new Agenda, Straw said Africans were the most optimistic people in the world, but warned that “the jury is out on Africa’s future, whether the optimistic or the pessimists are proved right depends on what Africa does now.

God,when will the world wake up to the fact that stone-age societies can not exist on a monetary system.Whether it's an Afro-American drug dealer or an African despot:Currency=bling, with absolutely no concept of long-term ramifications.Africa,at best, was a marginal continent before the White man showed up;then, due to medicine, exploitation, and exposure to higher technology, they multiplied like roaches. The White man carved farms capable of feeding this increasing mass, relinquised political control to 70 IQ "equals",lost their farms, lives, and THEIR COUNTRY'S economic base. What happens to the blacks in Africa is only their just due.And we can thank the race traitors who are still leading us down the primrose path of multiculturism.I used to think Sickle-cell anemia was the "great white hope",but now it's AIDS.

Yes, it is stupid to apply western standards to African bushmen and then piously pronounce that they're poor and we have to do something about it.
