Islamic leader warns of Paris-style riots in Britain

Milton Keynes Today:

THE father of a man, convicted of calling a police officer a "f***ing racist p***k", says there may be Paris-style riots if relations between the police and the city's young Asians do not improve.

Dr Sahib Bleher, of Oldbrook, spoke out after a Crown Court judge this week upheld a verdict from an earlier hearing that his son Abdu-L-Muqtadir Mustaqim had behaved in a threatening, intimidating or abusive manner when police stopped him on a city grid road nearly 18 months ago.

Mustaqim, a law student of previous good character, appealed against the conviction, but lost when it was heard at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday.

The result was welcomed by the city's police chief who said his officers' actions had been upheld, but on the the internet, in an article entitled 'Racist Britain: No Justice in a Police State', Dr Bleher said: "The lesson is not lost on the youth: Don't even bother to play by the rules.

"There is one rule for one and one for another. Fast forward and another police transgression might spark the kind of riots France saw recently."

The row began on August 23, 2004, when Mustaqim was stopped by police as he drove his E-registration Vauxhall Astra along the V6 in Bradville. An argument broke out between Mustaqim and the officers, resulting in his arrest.

In March last year, at the end of a trial at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court, Mustaqim was himself branded a racist by District Judge Williams when she found him guilty and gave him a 12-month conditional discharge.

Dr Bleher, who is the general secretary of the Islamic Party of Britain, added: "I am not whipping the matter up. I am saying if you carry on in this way, don't be surprised by the result which happened in France.

"It may on one occasion result in an even worse situation. What they are doing through the courts is saying that police brutality is fine as long as you do not say anything. That is the wrong message to send to the youth."
