British police warn of a gun kids crisis as six out of 11 suspects charged over Operation Trident black community murders were under 17
The Sun:
London’s Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said in a report that teenage use of firearms was commonplace.
The youngest Trident murder suspect charged since last April was 14.
Trident boss Det Supt John Coles said: “The kids are carrying guns for bravado and respect.
“Youngsters who would have settled a dispute with their fists are now doing it with guns.
“You can buy a gun for £100 on the streets. They are fashion items.”
Operation Trident was set up in 2000 after it was realised 70 per cent of shootings were within the black community.
