An Iraqi asylum seeker, who indecently assaulted three young girls, is facing deportation from Britain

icLanarkshire:

Pervert Howri Qarib (30) was found guilty after trial at Airdrie Sheriff Court of indecently assaulting the 14-year-olds as they enjoyed a dip at the pool.

Qarib touched one of the girls on her leg, pinched another on her bottom and stroked her leg and then stroked the leg of the third girl. The attacks happened on November 14, 2004. The girls cannot be named for legal reasons.

During the trial, before Sheriff Morag Galbraith, the girls told how they were "terrified and distressed" when they felt Qarib's hand touching them under the water.

The court heard that Qarib's visa for residency in the United Kingdom expires in May and is due for review. His lawyer Eric Wallace said: "These offences he realises will be taken into consideration when it comes to deciding to extend his visa or send him back to Iraq.

"He comes from the Kurdish part of Iraq and does not speak English. He entered the country in March, 2002, and originally stayed in Birmingham before coming to Glasgow in October, 2004."

Last Wednesday Sheriff Galbraith banned him from all swimming pools within the court's jurisdiction of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway.

Through an interpreter, the sheriff told Qarib: "Sentence will be deferred on you for three months with the special conditions that you voluntarily co-operate with the Social Work department in addressing your sexual problems.

"You will be banned from entering all swimming pools within this jurisdiction."

Sentence was deferred on Qarib until June 12 for him to be of good behaviour and for further background reports to be prepared. He was also put on the Sex Offenders' Register.

What could possibly explain all the rigamarole here other than racially sensitive political correctness? Given all the evidence of recidivism among sex offenders, how could anything other than immediate deportation even be considered?

"the Kurdish part of Iraq"

Which these days is semi-autonomous and will probably stay that way (whether the Turks like it or not). So there is really no political impediment to sending him back. Give him part of the money they would've spent on 'addressing his sexual problems' and put his ass on the first plane.

Sheesh.
