Police in Toronto keep looking for an alleged sex predator

A composite sketch of the suspect in three sexual assaults

Police went door-to-door in an east Toronto neighbourhood on Saturday, hoping for information to help them find an alleged sexual predator stalking women in the area.

"He's obviously a great concern to this community," Det. Doug Sansom said. "These attacks were sexual in nature and they involved a knife, which is also very concerning to us."

In December of 2005 police distributed a composite sketch of a man they believe is responsible for three sexual assaults.

All three incidents happened in the Danforth and Pape Avenue area. It is alleged the mystery man approached the women while carrying a long knife.

In the months that have passed the suspect has not been found. Investigators are worried he could strike again.

"Not only could it escalate, but obviously … there's nothing to stop him from doing it again," Sansom said Saturday.

Officers canvassed the neighbourhood again on Saturday, showing a sketch of the suspect as they went door-to-door.

In November investigators described the suspect as a Filipino, or possibly Hispanic, male with dark hair and standing 5'6" tall. He is believed to be in his 20s.

The first attack allegedly occurred at 6 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2005. Police say the man, armed with a knife, knocked a woman to the ground and assaulted her. He ran away after the woman screamed.

Police did not provide details of the other assaults, except to say they believe the man is responsible.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
