Woman beheaded in Mzimba, Malawi
Mcdonald Bamusi:
A 62-year-old woman was on Monday found dead in Mzimba in a pool of her own blood with her neck slit, barely 24 hours after she was reported missing.
The woman, Tisankhe Nyirongo, hailed from Kamangadazi Village, T/A Mzukuzuku in the district.
Mzimba Police public relations officer Symon Maele told The Daily Times Tuesday that apart from a deep cut on the neck, there was no other bruise or cut on the rest of her body.
“Mzimba District Hospital has confirmed the neck was cut with an object sharper than an axe,” he said.
The police publicist further said the police are trying hard to establish the motive of the brutal killing.
“But surely, no one can murder an old village woman with the aim of robbing her of anything. And the absence of any bruises on her body except the cut on the neck eliminates the likelihood of unscrupulous people wanting any part of her body to be used for magic.
“It could be that she is a victim of family conflicts just by looking at how society looks at someone when he or she is old. This is where we will focus on. Call me later for more details,” said Maele.
Doctor Nyirongo, brother to the deceased, told police the victim was a widow and came back from her husband’s home six years ago to settle with her people.
Unlike the Mzimba incident, most recent killings in the country border people looking for private parts of their victims for magic.
