A Jamaican rapist who should have been considered for deportation from Britain has been accused of sexually abusing a girl of six

Telegraph:

The 35-year-old Jamaican allegedly attacked the girl within days of being released from prison in December 2005 and has since been rounded up by police.

A government source confirmed today that the man was one of 1,023 foreign offenders released without being considered for deportation.

That disclosure last month led to the sacking of Charles Clarke as Home Secretary.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have received an allegation of indecent assault against a young child in south London. The incident is alleged to have occurred some months ago.

"Inquiries are at an early stage. There have been no arrests."

Yesterday the new Home Secretary, John Reid, admitted that a murderer was among 98 foreign prisoners who remained at large after being freed without being considered for deportation.

Mr Reid said that the number of released prisoners now known to have committed serious offences had risen to 179 - although he has previously acknowledged that the final total could be "several hundred".

Of those who have been identified as serious offenders, 57 went on to commit further crimes following their release. Nineteen of the offences involved violence or a "sexual element".
