A Saudi woman charged with kidnapping and stealing from an Indonesian housekeeper was sentenced to 60 days in jail
John Aguilar:
As part of a deal worked out with prosecutors, 36-year-old Sarah Khonaizan pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of theft in the case. She was given 15 days credit for time already served and will be deported to Saudi Arabia as soon as her sentence is complete.
Khonaizan, along with her husband, Homaidan Al-Turki, was charged in 2004 with kidnapping and extorting money from the 24-year-old nanny, who prosecutors said was made to cook and clean for the Al-Turki family with little pay or time off.
The nanny, who accompanied the family to Colorado from Saudi Arabia in 2000, accused Al-Turki of sexually abusing her for several years while she worked for him.
Al-Turki, 37, was convicted of one felony count of criminal extortion, one felony count of theft, and a misdeameanor count of false imprisonment last month. He was also convicted of 12 felony counts of unlawful sexual contact using force.
