11 Fort Drum soldiers face charges for assaulting another soldier and his wife
News 10 Now:
State Police said the incident took place off post Wednesday night in the town of LeRay.
According to police, when the victim answered his door, the group of soldiers knocked him down and kicked him numerous times in the body and head. As for the victim's wife, police said she was hit in the face with a glass bottle.
Nine of the soldiers were arrested, while two others were turned over to their military supervisors.
"It is early in the investigation. The soldiers have been charged with the offense, but not been convicted. But, the Army does not condone felony offenses, and if convictions were to come as a result of these charges, it's not likely that any or many of these soldiers would be retained in the service," Fort Drum Public Affairs Officer Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick said.
Police said the motive for the attack stems from a complaint filed by the victims against another soldier.
