Norway: A 30-year-old man from Somalia has been arrested in connection with a violent rape in the Grünerløkka district of Oslo

Jonathan Tisdall:

"The man was filmed by a video camera at a 7-11 store. We have circulated pictures of the man internally among police, and close cooperation between departments and police stations allowed us to arrest the man," police captain Anne Rynning Aasen told Aftenposten.no.

The man, who has been charged with rape, has a prior criminal record. The arrest took place quietly in the Grønland district of downtown Oslo, just after 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Police said that they would check the suspect against a series of attack rapes and attempted rapes in the central Oslo area.

"My client will decide whether he acknowledges guilt at the remand hearing tomorrow. I have no other comment," the man's lawyer, Hilde Marie Ims, told Aftenposten.no.

The rape in question was extremely brutal. A 48-year-old woman was first raped and beaten in an Oslo street and was attacked again later after she encountered him on her way away from the crime scene.
