A bloody circle was completed in the early hours of Saturday morning in New Cross, south London.
Andrew Wanogho, 26, the man accused of murdering Damian Cope outside a West End nightclub in 2002, bled to death in the gutter - shot through the back and heart in a killing that will be seen as street justice to those familiar with gang culture.
Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that Mr Wanogho's murder was a revenge attack for Mr Cope's death, but he had many enemies. Known as "The Assassin" in the boxing ring and "Sparks" outside of it, Mr Wanogho was considered a hothead who had a history of firearms-related crime. When any cases against him came to court, witnesses would back out, as happened in his trial at the Old Bailey over the Cope murder. He was acquitted.
He survived an assassination attempt last summer and had taken to wearing a bulletproof vest.
The feeling among those who knew him is that Mr Wanogho's past caught up with him. But thoughts of a death avenged have not crossed the mind of Lucy Cope, Damian's mother. In an astonishing act of grace, she wants to launch a joint public appeal with Mr Wanogho's mother, Deborah, to help catch his killer.
"Andrew Wanogho is not a perpetrator now - he is a victim," she said yesterday. "My initial reaction was truly and deeply for his mother. I shed tears for her. This is not justice. It makes no difference it's Andrew Wanogho here. His mother doesn't deserve this."
After Damian's murder four years ago, Ms Cope set up the charity Mothers Against Guns, campaigning against the flood of firearms ending up in the hands of Britain's gangs. She estimates that she has had contact with 700 grieving relatives around the UK who have lost loved ones to gun violence. "You go to the mortuary and you see your dead son lying there six inches behind the glass," said Ms Cope. "Your initial reaction is to beat that glass - and it echoes.
"You know when they died it wasn't an accident, it wasn't an illness. At that specific moment when the bullet enters their body their life must flash before their eyes and as a mother you're not there for them. The scream comes from the pit of your despair," she said.
It is unclear if Andrew Wanogho ever saw his killer. He was on the poorly lit Pendrell Road in New Cross at 1.30am on Saturday when he was shot once in the back. The bullet pierced his heart and he staggered up the street. He was driven to the flat of Paul Wanogho, his brother, but by the time he arrived he was dead.
The murder is being investigated by officers from Operation Trident, the Metropolitan Police's black-on-black gun crime unit. Detectives say they are keeping an open mind, but are investigating the possibility that it was an ambush. "We can't rule out a connection with the Damian Cope murder at all, but we can't rule it in either," said one. "There are going to be very few witnesses, if any."
A 27-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were arrested on Sunday and bailed until June.
Gun crime is rising and becoming more prevalent among teenagers, according to the head of Trident, Detective Chief Superintendent John Coles. Mr Wanogho's death is "basically the same old vicious circle that's been going on for 10 years," he said. "But we have more and more young British black kids carrying guns all the time. Last year we charged someone who was 14 with murder for the first time; others were 15, 16, 17 and 19. Before that we'd never had someone under 21 charged with murder," he said.

Why on earth are the British allowing black people to migrate to Britain? Don't they have enough crime without having to import it?
Well, believe me, there werent too many tears shed when Andrew Wanogho died. There was glee amongst most of the young kids in the area. He started off as a bully at a young age. He went to a young offenders prison in feltham middlesex. He at the age of 16 was a menace to society. He had the ability to knock grown men out with one punch. His fearsome reputation took hold when he started to bully the fearsome Lee 'lighning' Murray. Lee Murray is a uk's cage rage champion, on the run for the 53Million pound heist in tonbridge.
when he came out of prison, he was into burglary, stealing sun computers and micro chips from the Bt buildings in the uk. His reputation spread all over london as a bad man.
He's been in and out of prison for about six years, not staying on the street for a full year till the death of Damian Cope. That was a senseless killing. Basically, they were both thugs in their own areas.
They new of each other, both had their hoodlums and cronies around them. Cope tried to make something of himself as he was going to college, but through his drug dealing he was worth a substantial amount of money.
Andrew wanogho also known as sparks was very jealous of this. He confronted cope one day as a way of intimidation. Cope didnt want to fight as he had a leg in plaster. Sparks knocked him out. From then it was the beef.
Five boys attempted to murder sparks, they failed, shooting him in the lung and buttocks. he was lucky.
Wanagho wanted revenge when he recovered. He along with Trevor Denney, Zaggi Denney, Stuart Wilson and Andrew thomas sseked revenge.
They and an unknown woman, travelled to west end of london where they knew cope would be. The girl who was also known by cope phoned him and asked him to come aoutside the nightclub browns for a blowjob.
Cope obviously eager to pleased went outside where he saw wanagho.The actual trigger was pulled by Trevor Denney, an associate of Mark Lamby. They ran back to the cars. The woman travelling by herself and the others in another car travelled back to south london.
The woman was arrested. The police knew it was to do with wanogho and his crew but they only wanted wanogho.They didnt even charge the girl even though she had the gun that killed cope in her car.
Wanagho travelled to Nigeria and stayed there for a year.Then he went to America and began boxing under the ANDREW WESTON. He had a good fight record and was taking the fight game there by storm winning all fights easily at the welterweight. He was caught on an expired visa and had to be deported.
Once here fear grew amongst copes friends and family. Everyone knew the reputation of Sparks. Just the name alone was enough to send shivers down the backs of other high profile figures as he was a loose canon and a bully.
The trial collapsed. Wanagho was free. He had a falling out with the Denney brothers. They are the main boys in the area now. They have so many cronies, people dare not cross them. The word on the street is that they set him up to be murdered. The ones to watch out for in south london now are, Trevor Denney 26 and Zaggi Denney 20.
I dont feel sorry for Ms Cope, she enjoyed the trappings of her son's drug wealth, college was a front. At his young age he had an audi tt and top of the range bmw, so that tell's you why mum's have so much unconditional love for kid's they cant control, its the love of money

I go to the boxing gym that sparks went to. sparks was a caring person that sadly was easily influenced. I have been training with him in the gym and could see the competitive side of him was the thing that got him killed. I am also very competitive and would always try to train harder than him. sparks unfortunately was the sort of person you'd love to have as a friend, but would not be nice to have as an enemy. I wish i could have helped him, because i always knew this was going to happen. Since the death of sparks it has made me a stronger person in life and in the gym, i have promised myself that i will make something of my boxing in memory of sparks, and to show all young people that you can achieve something with your life. Many of my friends have been shot dead over the years and i can't understand why there doing this. hopefully one person might read this and decide to do something GREAT for themselves in memory of someone they've lost to the bullet or otherwise. my heart bleeds for sparks's family and i'd just like to let them known that i will achieve GREAT things in the ring for them and sparks. I too trained with Andrew Wanogho and went to his primary school. Andrew went to St Josephs boxing club in Deptford, which is no longer there. I'll always remember not being able to catch him, as he was always too quick, and then he'll plonk one on my chin. I have to say that I never had any trouble with Andrew and am also shocked to hear about Orville. Does anyone know how Orville died??

The actually facts of the case that it is alleged Trevor Dennie acted only as "press button man" on instruction of a higher ranking more serious and organised criminal master mind Delphon Nicholas.

It is believed that during delphone nichols rise to power that dennie caused conflict between wanogho and delphone as he fore saw a on coming problem with wanogho from issues surrounding the giving of the statement shortly there after wangho was involved in a conflict with delphone on hither green lane were during the conflict delphone lost his Rolex watch.Soon after that one of the guys said to been with wanogho that night was shot twice in brockley cross in his leg and buttocks both wanogho and delphone was incarcerated for separate offense around the same time,sometime 2005 july delphone run into sparks in elmley and delphone through hot water and sugar in his face and tried to stab him his neck.Shortly there after they was both acquitted of there charges.How ever delphone was released first from custody and the police alleged that he used that time to constructed a plan to have mr wanogho murdered dressed as women he is believed to have fired a volley of shots after a fleeing wanogho outside of inner London crown court much to the surprise court security and police officers who regularly attended court to give evidence in court for criminal cases.
A shooting took place seconds after wanogho was realised by way of acquittal for a number of firearms charges. Trevour dennie quite cowardly stayed in the background while wanogho and nicholas continued to fall out and sparks was so preoccupied with falling out he payed little or no intention to the issue of the statement given by the mother of dennie untill delphone sheded light on the fact that dennie was the perpetrator by highlighting the fact that dennie was playing both sides of the fence. Delphone allegedly attempted to kill sosa to high light this fact.Who in turn intending to have delphone set up for wanagho he tried to give information of of the were abouts of delphone to dennie to give to wanogho who instead give it to delphone only because it is said when dennie received that phone call he was in company one of the members of the muslimee brothers hood from nortious mightsflield easte brixton also know as bagbhad.
The brother caught wind of the conversation and instructed dennie as a muslium he must insisted that dennie infomes delphone of what he has been told.Which dennie had no choice but comply much to his annoyance. When wanogho heard the reasons behind delphos attacks on sosa he immediately declared war on trevour dennie.And wanogho resolved his difference with delphone as they was previously close childhood friends.And delphone was then sent to jail on fire arms charges were he infamously acquitted after declaring another local villain delton davis was a informer .

Rip to the knock-out specialist. Never met Him, but heard great stories around the early noughies. Is it by chance SE8/14 is now going through gentrification and we see the old Job centre in Deptford now a striving pub. The hood has changed so much, house prices have gone way up to 4x. With all the game, i dont see no houses, no businesses and not a future in site; all these chains and cars yet no real profit. A sad conclusion to any life.
