Allies failed Jews?

The Israeli president has accused the Allies of not doing enough to stop the Holocaust:

Moshe Katsav, the Israeli president, today accused the World War II allies of failing to take sufficient measures to save Europe's Jews and urged the European Union to act to root out modern-day anti-Semitism.

Katsav, addressing a forum marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz death camp by Soviet troops, said Allied action to bomb Auschwitz or rail lines leading to it could have saved the lives of countless Jews. "The Holocaust is not only a tragedy of the Jewish people. It is a failure of humanity as a whole," Katsav told the gathering in the Polish city of Krakow before commemorations at the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex, 70 km to the west.
