Graduation rates: white, black and Hispanic

The high school graduation rate for whites is twice that of blacks and Hispanics in New York:

Graduation rates statewide have remained steady over the past decade, but whites are getting their diplomas at double the rate of their black and Hispanic classmates, according to a new study.

The report, based on data from the Class of 2002, shows 81% of whites graduated, compared with just 42% for blacks and 36% for Hispanics. The statewide graduation rate was 64%.

"The evidence indicates that New York's public school system is disproportionately failing to educate its minority students," said report author Jay Greene, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute's Education Research Office.

With a graduation rate of only 36%, I think that pro-immigration advocates are fooling themselves when they say that Hispanic immigrants are going to be the salvation of the US economy in the future.
