Poll: Californians against driver's licenses for illegal immigrants

A poll finds that Californians oppose giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants:

A survey released today by the Field Poll says that 62 percent of state residents oppose granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, while 35 percent favor the idea.

But the poll found that Californians are virtually split on issuing a different kind of license to illegal immigrants.

The survey also found a large ethnic divide on the question. Three out of four white, non-Hispanics said they are opposed to issuing regular driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, while Hispanics favor the idea by a two-to-one margin.
