Deported Mexican sex offender arrested in Texas

UPI:

U.S. officials said Tuesday they arrested a man trying to re-enter the United States after being deported on a conviction for indecency with a child.

Jose Enrique Martinez of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, was arrested Monday at the Paso Del Norte crossing in El Paso, Customs and Border Protection officials said. He was being held Tuesday in the El Paso County jail awaiting prosecution.

Martinez claimed to be a U.S. citizen when questioned by U.S. customs officers, but he did not have any documentation to support his declaration, they said.

Customs officers found he had an extensive criminal history in the United States, including convictions for indecency with a child, attempted sexual assault, burglary, and assault on a public servant.
