An ex-member of The Village People faces prison after missing a court hearing where he was due to be sentenced on drug and gun charges

BBC News:

Victor Willis was lead vocalist on hit songs like YMCA

Victor Willis, who dressed as a policeman in the group, is charged with possessing cocaine and a loaded handgun in California last July.

He failed to attend Tuesday's San Mateo County Superior Court hearing.

Mr Willis, 54, also failed to attend an October hearing, when his lawyer said he was "scheduled for surgery".

He had faced a maximum of 16 months in prison after pleading no contest to the drugs and gun charges.

Mr Willis was freed in lieu of $100,000 (£56,000) bail.

However, after failing to appear in court twice Mr Willis could now face more than three years in prison.

An original member of The Village People, who had hits including YMCA and Go West, the songwriter and performer left the band in the late 1970s.

His last known address was a trailer park in Daly City.
