A Mexican teen has been arrested in connection with a rape in December

Capital News 9:

Felipe DeJesus-Flores

Felipe DeJesus-Flores, 16, is charged with rape, sodomy, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said he attacked a 21-year-old UAlbany student in her South Lake apartment on December 10.

The woman was eventually able to escape and get help, but her attacker got away.

In January, another woman called police saying a man tried to follow her into her South Lake apartment.

Police picked up DeJesus-Flores and took a DNA sample to try and match him with other crimes.

The results of that test came back Wednesday, and officers tracked DeJesus-Flores down and arrested him for the 2005 attack.

Authorities said this arrest should help ease the minds of people in that neighborhood.

Albany Police Chief James Miller said, "A lot of people didn't know what was going on. It was an early morning rape. It happened around 8:30 a.m. Thankfully he was caught. You just never know, particularly for the residents in the area because in their minds they have to wonder if that person is coming back again."

DeJesus-Flores is originally from Mexico, and authorities are trying to figure out if he is in the country legally.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail without bail.
