The father of four Pakistani gang rapists has been temporarily banned from practising as a doctor
Natasha Wallace:
The 66-year-old GP from Mount Druitt is accused of lying under oath in an attempt to cover up his sons' crimes.
The NSW Medical Board also suspended his licence on April 29 but the Herald understands it is not due to the perjury charge.
The board is unable to disclose the reasons, but suspensions may be due to a serious complaint.
The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission is investigating him for overprescribing addictive drugs.
He appeared in Mount Druitt Local Court yesterday charged with one count of perjury with intent to procure the acquittal of a serious offence for his two eldest sons, MSK and MAK.
During their trial in 2003 he told the NSW Supreme Court he was home alone and praying until just before sunrise the night his four sons gang-raped two girls at their Ashfield house.
Their father can only be referred to as Dr K because court orders prevent the identification of the youngest brothers.
After court, Dr K breached security by slipping through an emergency fire exit, forcing the court's registrar, Mark Groom, to have a metal pin removed from the door.
Yesterday, the DPP solicitor Sheridan Goodwin applied unsuccessfully for Dr K to be forced to report to police daily, saying he could flee interstate.
He has surrendered his Pakistani and Australian passports.
Bail extended for rapists' father
