Indian youths tried to rape a minor believing that it would cure them of syphilis
Times of India:
Driven by superstition, two youths in Jharkhand tried to rape a minor thinking it would rid them of a sexually transmitted disease that they had contracted by visiting sex workers.
Police said Babloo and Biru Khan, residents of Tamar block, about 45 km from here, abducted the 11-year-old daughter of a railway employee Tuesday evening. Both parents of the girl were working, making it easy for the youths to abduct her, police said.
When the family members lodged a police complaint, the cops swung into action and rescued the girl on Wednesday. Babloo has been arrested while Biru is absconding.
Police were surprised when the youths explained why they had abducted the girl.
"The youths had abducted the minor believing they would be cured of the venereal disease (syphilis) if they had sex with a minor girl. They tried to rape the girl once but failed. Police intervened in time," said a police official of Tamar.
"The arrested youth admitted that they were regulars to brothels and got the disease there. Someone told them about a cure by raping a minor," police said. The girl was handed over to family members after interrogation.
Police booked Babloo on charges of abduction and attempt to rape while a manhunt is on for his accomplice. Police are also on the lookout of the person who suggested the rape of a minor.
