An unemployed Iranian asylum seeker who twice raped a Polish woman in London during a terrifying five-hour ordeal has been jailed for eight years

Peter Stebbings:

Corosh Ykkta, 22, who was living in a flatshare in Queens Avenue, Muswell Hill, at the time he carried out the rapes, was jailed at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday.

A jury found him guilty of committing the double rape on Saturday, April 9, last year, despite his claims of innocence.

When he has completed his jail term he will be deported to his native Iran.

Ykkta met his victim, a 19-year-old Pole who had only been in the country for three weeks, in Wood Green High Road, at around 8pm, on the Friday evening. Despite having only a rudimentary grasp of English, Ykkta befriended the girl and, at around 1am on Saturday morning, lured her to Alexandra Park where he raped her.

He then drove her to Kings Avenue, where he raped her in his car. Haringey police say the fact it was the early hours of the morning would have meant few people were around at the time.

Using the descriptions given by the victim about his appearance and clothing, police tracked Ykkta to his address in Queens Avenue. He was arrested on April 14 last year. Police say Ykkta's victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was living in Wood Green at the time. She has now left the UK.

Detective Constable Ade Onabajo, of Haringey police, said: "She'll never be the same again, bearing in mind the nature of the offence. She did say she had been affected in the way she is as a person. She used to be bubbly, but she no longer goes out at night and looks over her shoulder all the time."

Little is known about how long Ykkta had been in the country prior to his arrest or how he had come to be here.
