The Delaware State University band director is in jail having been charged with raping a 20-year-old male student

Miguel A. Bonds, 31, of the Linkside Apartments in Magnolia, was charged late Sunday with second-degree rape, two counts of third-degree unlawful sexual contact and providing alcohol to an underage person.
Bonds was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center after failing to post $12,100 bail.
He has been placed on paid administrative leave by university officials.
Bonds, a New Orleans native, was hired as the university’s director of bands last spring.
State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham said the alleged incident took place Saturday night, and the victim reported it the following day.
The victim told detectives that he was talking to Bonds on campus after the football game Saturday night and told him that he planned to pledge a fraternity next year.
Bonds offered to teach him “what he needs to know about pledging.”
Bonds and the student left campus and went to the band director’s apartment where they watched a movie.
After that, Bonds allegedly invited the victim into his bedroom while he was cleaning up and then offered the man a Hypnotic, an alcoholic beverage containing vodka.
The victim reported feeling intoxicated within minutes. He soon began losing his balance and had to sit down on the edge of the bed, Oldham said. Bonds then convinced the man to lie down and later put on a pornographic movie.
Oldham said the victim told detectives he was drifting in and out of consciousness while Bonds allegedly performed oral sex on him and inappropriately touched him. He didn’t remember much after that, he said.
When the victim woke up Sunday morning he found he was lying naked on the floor with a pillow and blanket. He vomited several times after that before falling asleep again. The victim left the apartment about 10 a.m., Oldham said.
Bonds called the man later and asked him if he remembered anything, Oldham said. The victim told him he didn’t and hung up the phone.
