A man currently in jail for allegedly shooting a police officer was charged in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a teenager
Local10:
Police said Charles E. Hebron abducted a 17-year-old girl from the Coral Springs Mall on April 1, 2005, drove her to an apartment complex and raped her. Police said they were able to match a piece of duct tape used over the victim's eyes to a roll of tape found in his apartment.
Hebron, 35, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is already behind bars and charged with the shooting of Margate police Officer Chad Ryen on April 16, 2005, less than a month after he allegedly kidnapped and raped the 17-year-old girl.
Following the shooting, K-9 units tracked Hebron to a Dumpster at a nearby shopping center, where he was arrested. A search of the area where Hebron was hiding revealed the gun that was used in the shooting, police said.
Police said Hebron later admitted to possessing the gun and shooting Ryen.
Hebron was charged with one count of armed kidnapping and three counts of armed sexual battery.
