A man was arrested and charged in connection with a dead body found behind a northwest Houston church
Ruben Hernandez, 29, was charged with the capital murder of Demon Washington, 26.
Washington's body was found Friday at about 11 a.m. behind the New Heights Baptist Church, located at 1422 Dorothy St. He had been shot in the head at another location hours before and dumped there, detectives said.
Investigators believed robbery was the motive because Washington's vehicle, shoes and wallet were missing and he was known to have carried large sums of cash.
Hernandez was arrested Tuesday morning at a hotel on Cavalcade near Interstate 45.
Police said Hernandez confessed to the murder and said he did it for the cash, car and the victim's athletic shoes.
Hernandez is also accused of kidnapping and assault in connection with another case.
