French socialist criticizes blacks

Gareth Cartman:

Georges Frêche, Socialist President of the Languedoc-Rousillon region, put his foot in his mouth on Tuesday evening with comments about the French football team. "9 of them are black. Soon all 11 will be black!" he screamed.

Controversial Socialist MP Georges Frêche has landed himself in hot water once more after comments that the French football team was top-heavy on blacks. "9 of them are black", he said on Tuesday evening at a Socialist congress. "Soon there will be 11 blacks in the team. White footballers really must be rubbish! When I see certain football teams, it hurts me!"

He continued: "Three or four would be normal, that would reflect society. I'm ashamed of this country".

Frêche's comments have already been condemned roundly by members of his own party. Claude Bartolone, the right-hand man of Laurent Fabius, pre-empted France Soir by shouting "Red Card for Frêche!" and went on to say "These are comments worthy of Jean-Marie Le Pen. Frêche is a repeat offender in provocation." EMP Harlem Désir called for the Socialist Party to sack Frêche, who already holds several offices, and to cast him from the party.

This is not the first time Frêche has been out of line. He is soon to appear in court over comments that the Harkis, the Algerians who fought alongside the French in the France-Algeria war, were "sub-human".
