Detectives are hunting for an illegal Honduran immigrant who broke into a home and began touching a 10-year-old girl

David Ovalle:

Jose Mario Romero

Pinecrest police said today that Jose Mario Romero, an undocumented Honduran national known to live in the Homestead area, broke into the home on Southwest 104th Street on Jan. 3 about 3:30 a.m.

''He proceeded to the bedroom of a 10-year-old female who was sleeping. He touched her in a lewd and lascivious manner and held her against her will,'' Sgt. Enrique Mulet wrote in a press release.

In the months before the attack, Romero had been hired by the girl's father to do yard work. The father always picked him up at a Cutler Ridge Home Depot.

Mulet and detectives passed out over 300 fliers in the Homestead area. They located a ''distant family'' member who provided a photo.

Romero ''has very little ties here,'' Mulet said. He is believed to be between 28 and 32 years old, and about 5-foot-10.

He was last seen, police believe, at a Sedano's Market on U.S.-1 and Southwest 312 Street.

Anyone with information on Romero can call Pinecrest Police at 305-234-2100 or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
