Illegal immigrant suspected in rape arrested in Texas
John Andrew Prime:
One of two men police believed to have invaded a Shreveport couple's apartment in early September and raped the woman has been arrested in New Braunfels, Texas, Shreveport police say.
Alfredo Rodriguez Gonzalez, 29, of the 11000 block of Ferguson Road in Dallas was apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force late Friday.
Gonzalez is being held pending an extradition hearing on a warrant for the aggravated rape that occurred Sept. 9 at 7800 Youree Drive, a police release says. Gonzalez should be brought back to Shreveport sometime this week. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has placed a hold on him because he is in this country illegally, the release adds.
The couple's truck, stolen by the men who committed the home invasion and rape, was recovered in the Austin, Texas, area last week after an officer policing an apartment complex learned the truck had been reported stolen. At that time, no suspect was apprehended, but the truck was being processed as evidence in the Shreveport case.
According to reports, about 1 a.m. Sept. 9., two men knocked on the apartment door, and the female victim opened it. She had recognized them because at least one of the men had been doing some roofing work at the complex.
The men walked into the apartment and began beating the woman and her male companion. The men then demanded money, tied up man and sexually assaulted the woman, police said.
The men then took a set of keys and stole the couple's 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, the vehicle recovered in Texas. Police said Gonzalez was driving the truck when he was picked up in Kaufman County, Texas, for not having a driver's license. But the truck had not yet been reported stolen and he was released the next morning, police said.
